About Us
Founded in 1971 we are a non-profit making organisation run for the benefit of our members.
Located near Buckminster at Saltby Airfield, we have ~150 members.
We fly throughout the year and welcome visitors experiencing gliding for the first time.
We also host MedAviate Ltd that fly Microlights. These are modern, lightweight aircraft for 1 or 2 people. They can be a little more convenient for those who are time pressured. MedAviate Ltd provide the microlight training and are located onsite.
A Potted History
Originally built during WW2 as RAF Saltby, it hosted UK, US and Polish squadrons during the war. With it’s 3 hard runways and technical site it was the launching point for Airborne troops during the invasion and Operation Market Garden.
Today we use the main runway and about half of one of the others, with the remainder being returned to farm use.
Our club house and hanger are located where the original main hangars once stood.
